A Better Walk Starts at the Door

The walk begins before the pavement.

There is a small pause between deciding to go outside and stepping through the door. It is an easy moment to rush, especially on a busy day. But a few calm checks can make the walk feel more comfortable for both you and your dog.

Take ten seconds for fit

Look at the collar where it normally rests and make sure it is sitting flat. Confirm the fastening is secure and that the fit is neither tight nor loose. If your dog has recently been groomed, is still growing or has changed weight, take a fresh neck measurement rather than relying on last season’s setting.

Carry only what the walk needs

A leash, waste bags, water when the weather calls for it and a small treat pouch are often enough. Keeping essentials simple makes them easier to find and leaves more attention for your dog’s pace, the street and the places worth stopping to sniff.

Make the routine yours

Some days call for a quick block around home; others leave room for a slower route. Neither needs to look perfect. The value of a routine is its repeatability: a familiar moment of movement, curiosity and company that fits the day you actually have.
